Augie's - A Loreto Tradition
GREAT BAR FOR HAPPY HOUR - I tried Augie's after a beautiful late afternoon walk on the Malecon. Typically not a bar fly. I found it to be THE expat spot on a Friday night. Attentive, busy, polite bartender. Great view. Comfortable A/C. Pleasant, friendly patrons to chat with. Cheap happy hour with plentiful good BBQ chicken wings on this night and a decent margarita. In Loreto for 3 months over the winter, I will definitely return to Augie's
CUTE LITTLE DIVE BAR - We liked this so much we came back twice. It's one of the few places in Loreto that is indoors and has air conditioning. The woman bartender works hard and makes good drinks. The food inexpensive and well prepared as well. We had a range of items from shrimp tacos, sushi, hamburgers, fish of the day. They only thing that was so/so was the sushi. Everything else was great. Definitely a fun little spot. We'll be back next time we're in town.
WHERE THE LOCAL EXPATS HANG OUT - If you want to meet the local characters, have some delicious bar food and an ice cold beer, this is the place. Augie's has become a Baja Sur icon, a "must" stop for the many world class athletes, fisherman, surfers, explorers, geologist, writers, Baja 1000 racers and crews, etc. who frequently pass thru. For the experienced locals, Augie's is reliable...best prices, best food, best service...you don't find that perfect trifecta often, right? If you do stop in, make sure to meet Augie... the man has a million good stories, and is a fine old soul. For groups, reserve the upstairs room in advance.
GOOD BAR - At home we would call this a dive bar (no swimsuit necessary), but we liked it a lot and found ourselves returning here several times. By far the best margaritas we found in Loreto. Plenty of tequila. Good happy hour with discounts on food/beer/booze. Only burger we tried on our Mexican vacation and they were pretty good. Owner there every time we were in and obviously its a "regulars" bar. Try it.
HAPPY HOUR WITH A VIEW - We went looking for some where to eat by the sea. We found this wonderful place. The second floor was great and had the best view. They there is the Happy Hour! The food and drinks were wonderful!
THE "CHEERS" OF LORETO - My fishing buddies and I were in Loreto for a week in August and were driving along the Malecon in town after a day's fishing to look for a comfortable place to have our day's catch cooked and drinks to wash it down with and found Augie's along the way. Great experience there with the way they prepared our fresh Dorado while enjoying the company of Expats and friendly locals there. We liked it all so much that we went back two more times during the week and came away with great memories. Looking forward to going back to Loreto and having Augie's as part of that experience again!
